As the Sunday worship service was coming to an end, at around 10 a.m., the individual neighbouring the church began to play loud music to intentionally disrupt the proceedings of the church. When the pastor began video recording the speakers (to use as evidence), the neighbour began charging at the pastor with a broomstick in hand, intending to assault him. The neighbour was accompanied by around 60 other villagers, including the head of the Rural Development Society (RDS). They proceeded to hurl obscenities at the pastor and threaten him. A congregant phoned the police emergency hotline and 02 police officers from the Kalawanchikudi Police Station arrived at the scene. The mob claimed the church was disturbing the village and the police advised them to go and file a police complaint if that was the case.
