Government Officials order Christians to stop religious worship activities

03 officials from the Mahaweli Development Authority and 03 Buddhist monks forcibly entered the place of worship at around 12:30 p.m. The Block Manager of the Mahaweli Authority threatened the Christians and told them that he would reclaim their land if they did not stop their religious worship activities. The Christians reiterated their rights and refused to comply.

At approximately 6 p.m., the Christians went to the Aralaganwila Police Station to lodge a complaint regarding the incidentThe Officer-in Charge (OIC) refused to accept the complaint and instructed the Christians to listen to the monks and Mahaweli Authority and do as their told. However, following the pastor’s intervention, the OIC accepted the complaint on the 18th (complaint number 2860/17).
