On 23rd April, the pastor met with the Verugal Divisional Secretary (DS) at around 10 a.m., about obtaining a piece of land to construct a Christian place of worship. The DS instructed the pastor to first obtain approval from the village head. This, however, is not a legal requirement and the granting of land is at the discretion of the DS himself. Moreover, the DS was aware of majority opposition to the pastor’s activities. Over the years, the pastor and his congregants have suffered severe hardships when trying to engage in their religious worship activities. The DS, on several occasions, granted permission to the Christians to construct temporary shelters to carry out their activities, only to revoke said permission shortly after.
