While the Sunday worship service was ongoing, at around 08:30 a.m., a group of individuals stood outside the place of worship and shouted threats at the pastor and the congregants who had gathered there. The group was armed with poles and bicycle chains. The Christians barricaded themselves inside the place of worship and the pastor called the police emergency hotline. Two police officers from the Kalkudah Police Station arrived immediately. The Christians stepped outside only after the group of villagers had dispersed. The police affirmed the Christians’ right to engage in religious worship activities and told onlookers that the Christians were not to be harassed.
The pastor lodged a police complaint regarding the incident at the Kalkudah Police Station (CIB 60/76).
